Bio
I moved to the South Carolina coast when I was about 10. My brother skated and surfed, I thought he was cool so naturally I did the same. He was also a real good artist and inspired me to pick up a brush. I took the normal creative route of drawing, watercolor, acrylics, and finally oils. I didn't take art serious in high school cause all I really wanted to do was surf(I even blew off governors school 'cause there was no way I was spending my summer in class. boy was my art teacher pissed.) Went to college because it seemed fun, everytime I visited my friends it was nothing but beer and girls. Still didn't care that much about art in College and was lucky enough to be naturally talented and skate through my art classes. Started airbrushing boards after I graduated, traveled a bit, and did the occasional mural and painting. Then I went to the MOMA. There was a painting on display by Egon Sheile titled 'Tree in Winter'. Eventhough I was triple hungover it had a pretty profound effect on me. Couldn't wait to get home and start painting. Started ordering canvas by the roll, stretching it myself, got a warehouse, the whole 9 yards. Began studying all the old masters as well, Klimt, Gaugin, van Gogh, Modigliani. Surfing slowly waned as painting became more and more important. My art changed from guys ripping waves to the other aspects of surfing that you appreciate as you get older. The road trip, last wave at sunset, cup of coffee while checking the surf. My painting technique evolved as well, changing from Classicism to Impressionism and today edging toward the Abstract. I paint almost everyday, and realize that i am pretty blessed to make a decent living doing what I love.
